TRUE INDEPENDENCE

Independence isn’t merely about getting free from tyranny. Independence isn’t simply about being able to stand alone.

Every year every citizen in each country celebrates their country’s independence,

Attending processions in remembrance of every hero for their deeds to their mother land,

In remembrance of them who give us their lives in order to provide us the freedom that we enjoy these days.

And raising our country’s flags and feeling proud to be who we are.

All of them, heroes of the country have gained the freedom they have always cherished to own.

But for all of us who still live, I doubt that many have owned our freedom.

As time passes by, it slowly eats away our freedom,

Snatch us away from the future,

As if we’re bounded in a rope,

The rope that we made ourselves,

That was made out of our pride, our ego, and our short minded minds.

We are bounded in our own self – centeredness.

Molding this country into the kind of shape that we want,

But ended up ruining the very essence of a country,

Which is the freedom itself.

We esteem our wishes,

We prioritize our wills,

And pathetically that is what most of us call freedom.

Domination is not a liberty.

Domination isn’t meant for a country.

Greediness isn’t meant for a nation.

Selfishness isn’t meant for this mother land.

Rather than remembering everything people in the past have done for this country,

Its best for us to reflect on what significant changes have we bring to people of this nation.

May today’s Independence Day open up people’s minds

And open up every hearts

To fight for the true liberty

To fight for liberty in doing what is right

Not just some mere personal freedom.
